Ecommerce Digest Checklists
Making sure you don't overlook something in your product assessments.
Getting the Whole Picture
Ecommerce is highly competitive, and products that aren't extravagantly
advertised don't find customers. Nonetheless, you need to be especially
careful in choosing software. The danger is not money thrown away
on the wrong product. Far worse are the time and company resources
spent on mastering something that later proves inadequate, or
takes you away from your planned development. You need clear objectives
and accurate product specifications.
Weighing up the alternatives is just what advertising tries to
hinder, and trade gossip suggests that even savvy US companies
make serious mistakes. Needless to say, site development is even
more hit or miss outside the United States. Merchants seem not
to have the time or inclination to research the field adequately,
and they too quickly talk to a company representative or settle
for one of the packages listed on popular information sites.
Generally, it is not in the nature of these sites to be independent.
They survive on commissions earned by promoting a narrow range
of products, and if the products are not unreasonable choices,
they are not the whole picture and generally not the best value
for money.
Of course, you can take advice from your web designer. Many are
excellent, but even the best can't be expected to research all
your requirements, supposing you even know them yet. Most stick
to known products and procedures, where they can cost safely and
deliver on time.
You can consult the sites
featuring extensive ranges of ecommerce products, some of which
we list. The decline in advertising revenues have caused many
of these to close, unfortunately, or no longer to update their
listings.
And perhaps the information wasn't over-helpful in the first
place. Listings were usually compiled by non-technical staff,
who were obliged to take on trust the provided claims and descriptions.
Excellent advertising copy, but light on essential details.
So our Ecommerce-Digest checklists, particularly extensive in
the e-book. Appraising the opportunities in the light of these
will ensure you've not overlooked something, and so minimize the
chances of making the wrong decision. And in specific areas, additionally,
we provide product comparison lists,
so that you can compare details quickly and find your optimal
solution.
Also important are after-sales services and a large customer
base. Judge these from the website, and from responses to your
own email and telephone inquiries. A popular product or service
is less likely to be discontinued without warning, and larger
revenues provide the company with the resources to address technical
issues and/or moderate user discussion groups.
